Guns purchased legally in the United States this year could outfit two armies – and not just any armies, the armies of China and India, according to new government reports cited by a website for sport-shooting enthusiasts.
The federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System database statistics show there were more than 3.7 million background checks during the first three months of this year, compared to about 8 million annually not even a decade ago, according to the documentation assembled by Ammoland.com.
That's not individual guns, that's background checks, the organization pointed out. If a purchaser obtains two, three or even four guns at a time, often there is only one background check.

An Air Force officer who served in the Clinton White House and for two years carried the "nuclear football" briefcase of codes says it's almost certain that the "highest levels" of the Obama administration knew about and approved this week's stunt in which Air Force One buzzed New York City.
Retired Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson served in Clinton's White House from 1996 to 1998 and was responsible for the president's "emergency satchel," the black bag of nuclear codes that accompanies the president at all times.
He wrote "Reckless Disregard" and "Dereliction of Duty" after his retirement from the military.
During an interview on "The Andrea Shea King Show" last night, he said, "I can't imagine that anyone who works in the Air Force thought that was a good idea. I have worked in the White House and having worked for the Military Office, with the guys at Andrews Air Force Base and the ground crews, that (decision) had to come down from on high."

First it was use of the term "war on terror" that was banned by the government.
Then it was "terrorist attacks" that became "man-caused disasters."
Now it's "swine flu" that is verboten.
Despite the history of "swine flu" in the United States and the current alarm being raised over what has been estimated so far as a few hundred possible cases, the real danger appears to be what the problem is called, according to a federal report.
The Joint Staff Surgeon update today said: "[The office] has passed on per direction of the Homeland Security Council (HSC) via the National Joint Information Center (NJIC) EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY - the use of the term 'Swine Flu' should be discontinued. The current influenza situation should be referred to as 'H1N1 Flu Outbreak.'"
According to the Army News Service, "swine flu" usually occurs in pigs, but some strains can be passed to humans and from person to person.
The new strain has been reported primarily in Mexico, but there also have been cases so far in Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and the United States.

The Obama administration is preparing to swap U.S. sovereignty for a higher level of U.S. presence at the United Nations, a plan that has alarmed officials working to protect the rights of Americans, specifically the parental rights that traditionally have been recognized across the nation's history.
Michael Farris, founder of the Home School Legal Defense Association and chancellor of Patrick Henry College, said, "The move is little more than another attempt at political correctness by an administration frantic for acceptance by the international community."
Farris also is a dedicated leader behind the effort to change the U.S. Constitution through the amendment process to restore and protect parental rights.

Venezuelan, Palestinian foreign ministers in Caracas
Authorative sources in the Venezuelan capital have told DEBKAfile that Monday, April 27, Iran's foreign minister Mostafa Mohammed Najjar and intelligence chiefs secretly got together with visiting Palestinian Authority officials, led by Palestinian foreign minister Riyadh al-Maliki. The matchmakers were Hugo Chavez and the Qatar ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, following on the former's visits to Tehran and Qatar in late March.
If true, this would signal a drastic policy turnabout by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas away from Cairo and over to the radical Tehran and Damascus. The Ramallah-Tehran opening, if confirmed, could help bury the hatchet between the warring Fatah and Hamas and pave the way for a Palestinian unity government governed by rejectionist ideology.
This would shut the door to future Palestinian negotiations with Israel's Netanyahu administration.
Najjar's visit to Caracas was formally presented as a move to strengthen "defense cooperation" between Iran and Venezuela.
"Iran pledges its full support to promote the Venezuelan military's defense capabilities in the framework of mutual defensive agreements," he said, Thursday, April 30, after calling on Chavez. The Iranian visitor also met Venezuelan vice president and acting defense minister Ramon Carrizalez to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on military cooperation which encompassed "training and mutual exchange of military experiences".
The large Iranian and Palestinian Authority delegations met under cover of celebrations marking Venezuela's decision to sever its diplomatic ties with Israel and open a Palestinian embassy in Caracas instead.
Chavez is quoted as maintaining during his visits to Tehran and Doha that if US president Barack Obama is willing to talk to him, with Cuba and with Iran, there was no reason why Mahmoud Abbas should not engage Tehran directly. This would help overcome his Fatah's quarrel with Hamas, which Iran is actively supporting with arms, cash and military training.
Abbas is said to have welcomed the proposal when it was put to him by Sheikh Khalifa.
Caracas sources say the Iranian-Palestinian meeting lasted about four hours and ended with a decision to continue the encounters in Moscow, Doha and Ankara, where Iran and the Palestinians both maintain large diplomatic legations.

For the first time, a U.S. Supreme Court justice is offering some legal insight about the so-called Fairness Doctrine, suggesting the off-the-books policy could be declared unconstitutional if it's revived and brought before the bench.
In written discussion on yesterday's ruling cracking down on indecent language on television, Justice Clarence Thomas called the policy "problematic" and a "deep intrusion into the First Amendment rights of broadcasters."
The doctrine requiring broadcasters to air opposing viewpoints on controversial issues was brought to an end in the 1980s under the direction of President Ronald Reagan's Federal Communications Commission.
There has been widespread fear, though, the policy could be resurrected during the term of President Barack Obama.

The Pacific Justice Institute, a California-based legal group specializing in the defense of religious freedom and other civil liberties, is calling the remarks by Thomas "very significant."
"To my knowledge, this is the first time a sitting Supreme Court justice has weighed in on this issue," Matt McReynolds, a PJI staff attorney, told WND.
"It could potentially take a lot of steam out of the movement from those who want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. It also provides a lot of ammo to those who have been saying it's unconstitutional. Now we have some validation from a member of the court."

"Big government is the solution" best describes President Obama's first 100 days in office, contends Rep. Rob Bishop of Utah.
"There are people who really believe the federal government is the best solution to our problems and there are others who believe that the empowerment of individuals is the best solution.
"I'm on the individual side," says Bishop.

Bishop says the new adminstration clearly wants to go back to Lyndon B. Johnson's "Great Society" and build upon that base of government as the solution.
"People should be able to have more of their money, more of their lives and more control over their environment," he says.
Bishop is also critical of budgetary decisions that could impact America's future defense.
"I have great fears for our military".
"In the last three years it seems as if every budget area has been expanded significantly except for the military, and there are specific programs that are on the block to be eliminated that I think put us in jeopardy not just for now, but 20 years from now."
And what's Bishop's opinion of how Nancy Pelosi is running the House of Representatives?
