Defense minister Ehud Barak informed Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi Tuesday, April 6, that his four-year tenure as IDF chief of staff would not be extended when it runs out next February. This decision was approved by prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
debkafile's military sources report that neither was satisfied that Ashkenazi's performance and strategic approach were appropriate in the light of current security threats.
Both hold his military ability in high esteem, but since he was hurriedly appointed chief of staff in early 2007, Ashkenazi has shown little appetite for turning his talents into proactive field combat.
In the early 2009 Cast Lead operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, our sources report Barak and Ashkenazi did not work well together. At the time, the defense minister was highly impressed by the decisiveness and tactics employed in the operation by the far more hawkish OC Southern Command Maj. Gen. Yoav Galant.
Ashkenazi virtually blocked Galant's path as his successor by vetoing his promotion to deputy chief of staff, the usual jumping-off slot to the top post. The prime minister and defense minister decided nonetheless that the commander of the
In a statement Tuesday night, Lt. Gen. Ashkenazi explained he had not applied for a fifth-year extension because he fully approved of the government's unanimous decision when he took the job not to extend the tenure of any chief of staff beyond four years - except in extraordinary emergency circumstances. "We face complicated security problems and exceptional challenges from near and far which oblige is all to focus on essentials - and that is what we shall do," said the chief of staff.

IRS chief: Buy health insurance or lose your tax refund
Individuals who don’t purchase health insurance may lose their tax refunds according to IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman. After acknowledging the recently passed health-care bill limits the agency’s options for enforcing the individual mandate, Shulman told reporters that the most likely way to penalize individuals that don’t comply is by reducing or confiscating their tax refunds.

I am a long time happy Winchester Silvertip user in my R9S. Unfortunately I am afflicted with the need to try new ammo when it comes to market. I got my hands on two boxes (25 rounds each) of Hornady's new Critical Critical Defense 115gr ammo and went to the range with them and a box of 50 Winchester Silvertips. The Silvertips will remain my carry ammo. They are more accurate for me and have always performed flawlessly. I had a Failure To Feed and a Failure to Fire (light primer strike that fired with the second squeeze of the trigger) with the Hornady . The Silvertips as usual performed perfectly and also had less felt recoil making double taps quicker. On light primer strikes: I have had this now with the Hornady and the newly developed Cor-Bon 80gr. The primers seem harder than the Winchester Silvertips. The firing pin strike is noticably deeper in the Winchester primers. |

Has anyone read or experianced problems with Hornady CD Ammo?? I went to the range today to test some ammo in my pocket 9mm(no it's not a S&W) Anyway it was flawless with Gold Dots and Rem Gold Sabers, and my handloads with Wolf primers which are a bit on the hard side. I then tried some Hornady Critical Defense 9mm 115 gr FTX. Out of a box of 25, I had at least 5 misfires(failed to go bang) I had no problem with their .380 ammo when I tried it when it first came out before the great 380 shortage of 2009. I looked at the primers and they seem to have a fine primer strike and look the same as the ones that did fire. I saved 5 rounds with primer indents and plan on writing Hornady to see whats up. Just wondered if anyone else has heard or experienced this?? Thanks for any input. __________________ For Office Use Only |

Hornady C D Ammo Sure hope it's an isolated incedent. I've shot a ton of the 380 stuff + some of the 38 spc and 9mm CD but haven't had a lick of problems. Very interested in what ya find out __________________ Jumpin Gee-hoss-a-fat..Bob |

The 38 special works fine, I have not used or found the 380 yet but always found the regular 380 to work fine. Will see if Hornady responds to my e mail. __________________ For Office Use Only |

It has been several years, but I had trouble with some of their defense ammo. Didn't get much satisfaction from Hornady when I called them, so I just turned the rest into range ammo and have never bought any of their stuff since. My impression was it was a QC problem and they didn't manufacture the ammo themselves, it was contracted out. Whatever the reason, SD ammo that isn't 100% reliable isn't worth buying. |

I just got off the phone with them. They are sending a UPS call tag to pick up the rounds I saved that did not ignite. Here is a Pic: 115gr 9mm Critical Defense. __________________ For Office Use Only |
