Revolt Spreads Across the Globe as "Crisis" Continues to Unfold
“They say that the fires of revolt will spread everywhere, and we see acts like damage to bank branches or state buildings and claims of solidarity with the Greek rioters.”
After numerous European governments expressed fear that the unrest in Greece would spread to neighboring countries and perhaps around the world, the spreading global revolt has taken on another tone: that of confronting the elite for their manipulation of the economic “crisis” (which is really a systemic collapse) in order to consolidate yet even more wealth as the masses of the world suffer the brunt of the former’s greed. The spirit of the Greek revolt has not been forgotten, however, for it is clear whose interests the police serve and protect (as America was recently reminded in Oakland).
As Iceland became the first country to fall due to popular revolt against the economic elite, and then proceeded to elect their first female PM, who is also openly gay, things are heating up around the globe. Recently, over 1,000 protesters assembled illegally to protest the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, and while the protests were overwhelmingly peaceful, fear of unrest prompted the police to systematically target and arrest known and identified militants and revolutionaries.

US-Syrian talks: Precursor for Obama's dialogue with Iran?

US Senator John Kerry heads for Damascus
US Senator John Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, visits Damascus next week. A senior foreign affairs adviser to president Barack Obama, Kerry will be the first representative of the new US administration to meet president Bashar Assad.
Like his predecessors, the senator will ask Assad if he is prepared to sever his strategic ties with Tehran, withdraw backing for terrorist organizations and halt the passage of terrorists, arms and cash from Syria to Iraq and Lebanon. He will also question the Syrian ruler on his intentions with regard to peace talks with Israel. Senator Kerry will also visit Jerusalem.
On a previous visit in 2006, he put the same questions to Assad – to no avail. His spokesman said Thursday, Feb. 12, that Kerry's dialogue with the Syrian government was ongoing.
DEBKAfile's Middle East sources disclose that Assad's actions in the past year, including his stalled indirect peace track with Israel, have focused on breaking through to good relations with the future Obama administration. He is treating Kerry's visit as a step in that direction, without however proposing either to break with Tehran or stop backing terrorists. To the contrary; Assad is planning to convince Kerry that those connections place him ideally for serving as Washington's go-between with Tehran, the Lebanese Hizballah and the Palestinian Hamas and Jihad Islami.
He will argue that Turkish prime minister Tayyep Recip Erdogan has come to terms with this reality and so has Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, who held talks in Istanbul Tuesday, Feb. 10, with Erdogan and president Abdullah Gul. Assad will claim they agreed that no Middle East business, including the long-term truce in Gaza which they discussed, can be successfully accomplished without bringing Tehran and Damascus on board.
The new US administration is not giving Assad an easy ride.
Our sources report that Washington laid the ground for Kerry's Damascus mission by steps to expedite the convening of the special international tribunal appointed by the UN Security Council for bringing the assassins of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri in 2005 to trial.
Monday, Feb. 9, six steel boxes packed with documents amassed by UN prosecutors investigating the case, were secretly flown to The Hague by a French military plane.
Wednesday, French president Nicolas Sarkozy declared during a Persian Gulf trip: "We are determined to know the truth about this crime and punish the perpetrators."
With heavy suspicion hanging over Damascus, the Syrian president has made every possible effort to keep the tribunal on ice and Syrian officers inaccessible as witnesses. A guilty verdict against the Damascus regime would put paid to the prospects of Assad's acceptance in Washington.
Kerry will lead a large delegation of US lawmakers to Damascus, including the Republican Senator Arlen Specter, a close long-time associate of President Assad.

Netanyahu offers Livni 10 portfolios, may form government without Lieberman

DEBKAfile's political sources report that in preliminary talks Wednesday, Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu offered Kadima's Tzipi Livni the pick of 10 top portfolios for joining a government led by him. He has refused to consider rotating the premiership between them.
Although the near-final results of the Feb. 10 general election gave the centrist Kadima a slender lead of one seat (28 in the 120-member Knesset) over Likud's 27, Livni cannot muster a majority because both her potential left-wing allies, Labor and Meretz, took a severe beating in the elections. The country shifted to right awarding Netanyahu the support of a bloc of at least 64. President Shimon Peres must therefore assign him the task of forming a new government some time next week.
Thursday, Feb. 12, Avigdor Lieberman was still trying to maneuver between Livni and Netanyahu. He said he had made up his mind whom to recommend as prime minister when summoned by the president, but would not say who it was. His Israel Beitenu faction will meanwhile lay out political guidelines as terms for entering government.
But rather than leaning on right-wing support, our sources report Netanyahu hopes to coax both Livni and Labor leader Ehud Barak to join his administration. Barak vowed to go into opposition to lead his party, which founded the state, to recovery after it crashed to 13 seats and fourth place. If he responded to Netanyahu's invitation, it would be in defiance of his party which prefers the opposition benches to a Likud-led government.
The ultra-religious Shas which held steady at 11 is committed to supporting a Likud-led administration and Torah Judaism could chip in with another five. If all these ducks line up for him, Netanyahu could hypothetically end up with a comfortable majority and a fairly broad-based administration - even without Lieberman's right-wing Israel Beitenu and the two smaller nationalist parties.
For now, the negotiations are still in their early stages. The military vote may shift the final results marginally. Ten years ago, Netanyahu's first stint as prime minister was cut short by an early election which he lost to Labor's Barak.

The German military is training a special unit of cyberwarriors with the ability to scout out and destroy foreign computer networks, according to a Spiegel Online report.
This unit, known as the Department of Information and Computer Network Operations, operates under the command of Friedrich Wilhelm Kriesel, a brigadier general and the head of the Bundeswehr Strategic Reconnaissance Unit. Seventy-six of the hackers in uniform under Kriesel’s command have already been secluded in the Tomburg barracks near Bonn to test out the latest methods for infiltrating, exploring, manipulating and destroying computer networks.
The Internet has developed into a virtual battlefield. Computer networks play such a vital role in modern warfare that one devastating digital attack could almost cripple a nation’s military.
Just two years ago, German government databases were digitally attacked from servers based in the Lanzhou province in China. This attack was one of the major motivating factors rousing the German military to organize a cyberforce capable of protecting its information networks.
In addition to being able to protect German networks, however, this unit of cyberwarriors is also able to use their technical expertise to undermine the computer networks of other nations. On February 3, General Kriesel gave a proud report on his unit’s electronic surveillance successes in Afghanistan to chiefs of staff for the German military. Sometime next year, Kriesel’s unit will be asked to demonstrate its capabilities by performing a simulated cyberattack on a real world target.
In the United States, experts have been warning for years that technological dependence is the nation’s Achilles heel and that an “electronic Pearl Harbor” is a dangerous possibility. An Intelligence Digest report written over a decade ago by Joseph de Courcy stated that “One growing concern to Western security authorities is the expanding, semi-underground, network of young computer hackers in Germany.”

I am mainly concerned about the younger generation, people like me at my age have no future, my future will be with G-D or his angels some day. You must prepare to survive and protect your family from the human vultures that will want what you have. I keep telling all of you to get supplies and you must seal your primers and if you have a Bible at least read one PSALM per day. You must show some loyalty to your creator now before its too late.
Please listen to me, I know what I am talking about. I will try and help any decent person especially police of any kind, my health is declining but I will always try and help them. JERUSALEM – Inconclusive election results sent Israel into political limbo Wednesday with both Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and hard-line leader Benjamin Netanyahu claiming victory and leaving the kingmaker role to a rising political hawk with an anti-Arab platform.
Livni's Kadima Party won 28 seats, just one more than Netanyahu's Likud, in Tuesday's election for the 120-member parliament, according to nearly complete results. Both held victory rallies, but without a clear majority neither can govern alone. Hard-line parties won a majority of the votes, meaning that Netanyahu has more natural allies and a better chance of forming a coalition.

Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 (HR45 Introduced in House)
(a) Findings- Congress finds that–
(1) the manufacture, distribution, and importation of firearms is inherently commercial in nature;
(2) firearms regularly move in interstate commerce;
(3) to the extent that firearms trafficking is intrastate in nature, it arises out of and is substantially connected with a commercial transaction, which, when viewed in the aggregate, substantially affects interstate commerce;
(4) because the intrastate and interstate trafficking of firearms are so commingled, full regulation of interstate commerce requires the incidental regulation of intrastate commerce;
(5) gun violence in the United States is associated with the majority of homicides, over half the suicides, and two-thirds of non-fatal violent injuries; and
(6) on the afternoon of May 10, 2007, Blair Holt, a junior at Julian High School in Chicago, was killed on a public bus riding home from school when he used his body to shield a girl who was in the line of fire after a young man boarded the bus and started shooting.
(b) Sense of the Congress- It is the sense of the Congress that–
(1) firearms trafficking is prevalent and widespread in and among the States, and it is usually impossible to distinguish between intrastate trafficking and interstate trafficking; and
(2) it is in the national interest and within the role of the Federal Government to ensure that the regulation of firearms is uniform among the States, that law enforcement can quickly and effectively trace firearms used in crime, and that firearms owners know how to use and safely store their firearms.
(c) Purposes- The purposes of this Act and the amendments made by this Act are–
(1) to protect the public against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of qualifying firearms to criminals and youth;
(2) to ensure that owners of qualifying firearms are knowledgeable in the safe use, handling, and storage of those firearms;
(3) to restrict the availability of qualifying firearms to criminals, youth, and other persons prohibited by Federal law from receiving firearms; and
(4) to facilitate the tracing of qualifying firearms used in crime by Federal and State law enforcement agencies.
You see congress can not regulate anything but interstate commerce so they just declare the guns in our homes interstate commerce and now they can require them to be licensed.
`(aa) Firearm Licensing Requirement-
`(1) IN GENERAL- It shall be unlawful for any person other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to possess a qualifying firearm on or after the applicable date, unless that person has been issued a firearm license–
(a) In General- In order to be issued a firearm license under this title, an individual shall submit to the Attorney General (in accordance with the regulations promulgated under subsection (b)) an application, which shall include–
(1) a current, passport-sized photograph of the applicant that provides a clear, accurate likeness of the applicant;
(2) the name, address, and date and place of birth of the applicant;
(3) any other name that the applicant has ever used or by which the applicant has ever been known;
(4) a clear thumb print of the applicant, which shall be made when, and in the presence of the entity to whom, the application is submitted;
(5) with respect to each category of person prohibited by Federal law, or by the law of the State of residence of the applicant, from obtaining a firearm, a statement that the individual is not a person prohibited from obtaining a firearm;
(6) a certification by the applicant that the applicant will keep any firearm owned by the applicant safely stored and out of the possession of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;
(7) a certificate attesting to the completion at the time of application of a written firearms examination, which shall test the knowledge and ability of the applicant regarding–
(A) the safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;
(B) the safe handling of firearms;
(C) the use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use;
(D) the legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms; and
(E) any other subjects, as the Attorney General determines to be appropriate;
(8) an authorization by the applicant to release to the Attorney General or an authorized representative of the Attorney General any mental health records pertaining to the applicant;
(9) the date on which the application was submitted; and
(10) the signature of the applicant.
So you have to apply to the new Obama anti gun att general to get permission to keep your gun.
So much for Obama not being anti gun Hu. I don’t see Obama saying he won’t pass this new democrat party bill.
This law is unconstitutional because guns in our homes are not interstate commerce 1 and 2 even if they were it violates your 2nd amendment right to have a gun if you can not pass the permit rules not to mention the huge fees they will charge to prevent you from applying.
SEC. 202. FIREARM RECORDS.
(a) Submission of Sale or Transfer Reports- Not later than 14 days after the date on which the transfer of qualifying firearm is processed by a licensed dealer under section 922(bb) of title 18, United States Code (as added by section 201 of this Act), the licensed dealer shall submit to the Attorney General (or, in the case of a licensed dealer located in a State that has a State firearm licensing and record of sale system certified under section 602 of this Act, to the head of the State agency that administers that system) a report of that transfer, which shall include information relating to–
(1) the manufacturer of the firearm;
(2) the model name or number of the firearm;
(3) the serial number of the firearm;
(4) the date on which the firearm was received by the transferee;
(5) the number of a valid firearm license issued to the transferee under title I of this Act; and
(6) the name and address of the individual who transferred the firearm to the transferee.
(b) Federal Record of Sale System- Not later than 9 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Attorney General shall establish and maintain a Federal record of sale system, which shall include the information included in each report submitted to the Attorney General under subsection (a).
(c) Elimination of Prohibition on Establishment of System of Registration- Section 926(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking the second sentence.
So just to make it worse the bill creates a national firearm database of all guns to be stored with the Attorney General.

In what amounts to a Boston Tea Party-type rebellion against the government, California counties are threatening to withhold their money. Constitutional officers are also refusing to accept Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s authority to furlough workers. Meanwhile, two more California banks failed over the weekend, and a judge ordered the state to release up to 37 percent of its prison population. What is ahead for California?
Los Angeles, Sacramento, Orange, Colusa, Riverside, Imperial and San Bernardino counties may be on the verge of insurrection.
Several counties “say they’ve had enough—and they aren’t going to take it anymore,” reports the Sacramento Bee. Plans to withhold money, levy lawsuits against the state, and refuse to provide state-mandated services are in the works, and in some cases are already being implemented.
“It’s not at all surprising,” said Gerry Hertzberg, policy director for Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina. “We’ve got obligations.”
Seeds of rebellion were sown after the state announced it would halt payments on $3.5 billion worth of construction projects, tax refunds, and county transfer payments. The state is struggling to find a way to cover a projected $42 billion budget deficit.
“I think it just reflects the severity of the problem,” said Jim Wiltshire, deputy director of the California State Association of Counties. “[F]olks are just trying to find a way to keep going.”
Terri Sexton, a taxation expert at the University of California–Davis, said she’s never seen anything like this grassroots revolt. But, as she notes, California “has never been in this fiscal position.”
But it is not only counties that are in rebellion. State Controller John Chiang, Lt. Gov. John Garamendi, Secretary of State Debra Bowen, Treasurer Bill Lockyer, Public Instruction Superintendent Jack O’Connell, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, Attorney General Jerry Brown and the Board of Equalization have refused to accept Governor Schwarzenegger’s order to require 15,000 of their employees to work reduced hours.
On Monday, Schwarzenegger filed suit to force compliance.
Meanwhile, a panel of judges ruled Monday that the state must release between 24 and 37 percent of its prisoner population within three years. The panel said that California’s prison system is swollen to almost double its capacity and thus was violating prisoners’ constitutional rights. The ruling is expected to save the state between $800 and $900 million per year.
In other news, two more failed banks in California have been seized by regulators. Alliance Bank of Culver City and County Bank, Merced, were the 33rd and 34th banks to be taken over by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation since the recession began. Nine banks have been allowed to fail so far this year.
The state is also suffering a severe drought, with Los Angeles announcing what is, in effect, its first water rationing in its 200-plus-year history.
News out of California is mostly grim, but with the seeds of insurrection growing, things could be about to get worse. And that is bad news for America as a whole. California is often a lead indicator for the whole country. Watch California! •

Lawsuit contends Congress failed to qualify Democrat for Oval Office

A lawsuit that accuses Congress of failing to investigate President Obama's birthplace before approving the Electoral College vote giving him the presidency has been amended to include additional claims of rights violations, including unequal treatment, because Congress did such an investigation into GOP candidate Sen. John McCain.
That word comes from Mario Apuzzo, the lawyer handling the case on which WND previously has reported.
The case was brought by Apuzzo on behalf of Charles F. Kerchner Jr., Lowell T. Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr. It names as defendants Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress, the Senate, House of Representatives and former Vice President Dick Cheney along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
