Have owned several NAA mini's in the past, and have always been impressed with their quality.,

Just picked up a pug from the dealer who did the transfer for me (gunbroker auction).

I've gotta say that the fit and finish on this piece is horrendous!! There are casting marks ALL OVER inside the cylinder cut-out in the frame, and the roll mark for the Maker and caliber has been sanded/polished/mis-struck so badly it is nearly illegible. It almost appears that it reads 22 Wagnum!!!!

I will, however, defer final judgment until I have a chance to shoot it later today.

But, for almost $300, to say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

They can't do anything other than apologize.

We have "safety inspections" (ie: registration) in Michigan, so it isn't like I can send it back and have them replace it. Not, that is, unless I want to pay another transfer fee (dealer required) and use tax (state required).

Not to mention that to send it back I would have to pay UPS overnight rates BOTH ways. Now the total price would be pushing $400 between the purchase price and shipping charges. It just isn't worth that kind of money.

Put 50 rounds thru it this morning. All rounds fired, but the firing pin hit looked a bit shallow. Will have to run a few more boxes thru it before I consider it reliable. At least it shoots where the sights are pointing. As long as the sights don't shoot loose, I guess it should good to go.

Too bad its so damn ugly looking I won't be able to show it to anyone without making excuses for why the stamping is so crappy. The plain-jane versions I had in the past were so much nicer it isn't even funny.

Garand06,
Why did you accept the gun if it is in such bad shape, and not send it back immediately? Did the seller not offer an inspection period?

NAA has a great we fix it policy and I used it myself. They can mash that gun if that happens to be what they want to do, and make another with the same numbers probably, so the 'book' will still be right.. Now I am not saying that is what they will do, but who knows they might.

if I were you I would contact them and see if maybe they will do shipping both ways. It might have happened before...

Hi Garand:

Yes, even though you live in Michigan you can have it replaced. It is not that hard. NAA would send the "new" firearm directly to you and you then take it to your local police department and advise them that it is a warranty replacement for the former pistol. You will not need a FFL, since the transaction is a warranty claim being handled directly with the manufacturer. If you have any questions you can e-mail the state police direct and they will respond promptly.

"What stamping?"

The roll-mark that lists maker and caliber.

"...not need a FFL, since the transaction is a warranty claim..."

OK, but then I still have S/H both ways and like I said before, this would bring the total cost to me up to about $400. Not worth it.

Pictures, I'll have to work on that. I'm not a bad photographer, but I'm not much good at macro's.

NO, they did not, but with my (limited) experience in the past with NAA products, I didn't think it was necessary.

Actually, I don't think NAA firearms are stamped with the company name. The name and caliber printing seems to be an acid etching of some sort. It's not indented, I mean. It doesn't even look like engraving. Anybody know the process?

Who cares HOW they mark it!

It still should be crisp and clear!

Looks indented to me.

My new BW (Feb08)also had the same unfinished look your first photo shows in the exact same place on the inside of the bottom strap. Mine however is not near as bad as yours is, but still is kinda crappy looking.

Um, okay. I suppose _I_ care.

Yes, the pictures I saw posted were stamped, or indented. I was talking about the name on the barrel that isn't indented, at least not on my NAA's. It's etched rather than stamped.

Garand06 how about the spacing between the barrel and the front of the cylinder? Can you see light through there? I have looked at several Pugs in shops and you could see with the naked eye light between the barrel and the front of the cylinder. This seems to be a continuing problem for NAA, not only with the Pug but with all of their revolver line.

There should be some light visable between the cylinder and the barrel. The only way to know for sure what the gap is, is to use a feeler gauge. I think it should be about .003" and up to .006" is probably OK, but the closer to .003", the better.

Sassi,

What you are describing is perfectly normal.

There MUST be a gap there.

Using the S.W.A.G. method I'd say mine is about 0.008". Smaller is obviously better, but I dare you to find a (functional) revolver that doesn't have a gap.

I just set my micrometer at 0.001" and had absolutely no problem seeing the light thru the gap, and that gap would be too small to allow reliable functioning.

From the photos, I would wonder if you

(1) somehow got a prototype which shouldn't have ever left the shop or
(2) someone is doing Chinese knock-offs.

I suspect that NAA customer service will be very eager to see your revolver.

I have the same marks from the casting that you showed in the first picture and also have burrs and a raised area on the right side of the metal holding in the front sight. My gun also has a small scratch on the right side of the barrel near the front of the gun. Please someone chime in if they think I am being too picky but this was a new gun that had only been test fired at the factory. I don't have as much of a problem with the scratch as I do with the front sight tool marks and burning. The gun is a remarkable piece of engineering but now when I pick it up I can't but help notice the tool marks etc. It has had zero pocket carry. I will be calling NAA first thing tomorrow to see what they say.

I own several minis and they're perfect but they're some years old. I want a PUG but with these quality control issues I don't want my dealer to order one sight unseen. Why isn't NAA addressing these issues?
That skeleton belt buckle on ebay was gobbled up for $150. Wow! Almost worth a mini. I've got one new in box. Anyone know why NAA discontinued them?

A question to NAA would be: Why would guns with such quality issues be released to buyers?

Truth is, stinkers do occasionally get through. Unfortunately, a company is only as good as its worst gun on its worst day. Past dealings with NAA make me think all will be made right as quick as possible. I've had issues with my NAAs, but I've also had issues with Rugers, S&Ws, Berettas, Kimbers and (gag...) Taurus. I don't own Berettas or Taurus anymore as a result, but I still have 3 NAA minis.

I'm in the same boat. I ordered a PUG and after getting it am very unhappy with the quality. The sides of the barrel have deep vertical lines/grooves as if the PUG was held in a vise too tight. Also, the tritium front sight install looks terrible. I'm going to contact them also about getting another one but now I'm looking at more costs in terms of shipping and FFL fees. For $300, I expected more and as a previous BW owner, I thought I was OK ordering sight unseen. I was going to add rosewood grips (already bought them) and polish my PUG up nicely as a display type piece. The way this thing looks, I'll never be able to show it off. Again, after the fees to return it, I might as well sell it as a loss and be done with it.
