The flag of the communist Chinese regime has been raised over festivities near the White House honoring the restrictive nation's 60th anniversary, according to videos posted on YouTube as well as reports from the Chinese Central television network's English-language report.
WND reported earlier when plans were announced for the events held over the weekend, drawing a response from columnist Chuck Baldwin, who said the idea "challenges my vocabulary.
"Words such as UNBELIEVABLE, UNREAL, HORRIFIC, OBSCENE, even TRAITOROUS quickly come to mind," he wrote in a column. "Remember, the communist leaders of Mao's China are not called the 'Butchers of Beijing' for nothing. Since seizing power in 1949, it is estimated that the communist government in China has murdered more than 50 million people (some reports say the number is over 70 million)."

Brzezinski: U.S. should forcibly stop IAF flying over Iraq to reach Iran
Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former national security adviser to U.S. President Jimmy Carter, said on Sunday that U.S. forces should forcibly prevent the Israel Air Force from reaching Iran to strike its nuclear facilities.
In an interview with news Web site the Daily Beast, Brzezinski said that the U.S. forces were "not exactly impotent little babies," saying that Israel forces have "to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?"

The national security adviser during the administration of President Jimmy Carter says the United States should shoot down Israeli jets if that nation chooses to take military action against a nuclear project in Iran.
Zbigniew Brzezinski, in an interview with the Daily Beast website, declared, "We are not exactly impotent little babies."
Israel long has been thought to be considering a military strike against operations in Iran that could result in a nuclear weapon for the regime of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Israel has stated that it is unwilling to have its future threatened by a leader who believes it should be wiped off the map, as Ahmadinejad has stated, with access to nuclear weapons.
But such an Israeli attack on Iran probably would have to fly over coalition airspace in Iraq.
"Are we just going to sit there and watch?" Brzezinski demanded.

He said the U.S. has to be "serious" about denying Israel the right to attack.
"That means a denial where you aren't just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not," he said.

The Liberty was a U.S. ship in international waters in the Middle East during the Six-Day War in 1967 that was hit by Israeli gunfire.

Dozens of Israeli warplanes fly low over Gaza in show of muscle for Iran

DEBKAfile's military sources report that dozens of low-flying Israeli Air Force warplanes coasted over the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip for two hours Monday, Sept. 21 in a show of strength unparalleled since 100 IAF jets practiced long-distance flights in June 2008 against Russian-made S-300 anti-missile systems based in Greece.
The show of air strength, over Gaza City and the southern towns of Deir el Balakh, Khan Younes and Rafah ,was timed for prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu's departure for New York and defense minister Ehud Barak's arrival in Washington for talks with defense secretary Robert Gates.
It was planned by the two Israeli leaders - and prompted by chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi - in the realization of the need to restore some bite to Israel's deterrent strength against a hostile Iran and its proxies, Hizballah and Hamas. This strength was badly dented by a spate of ill-judged statements over last weekend.
Out of the blue, Barak told a press interviewer Thursday, Sept. 17, that Iran was no threat to Israel's existence. Two days later, Brig. Tal Rousso, director of operations in the IDF general staff, repeated the comment.
Sunday, the defense minister advised the NYT: "The central challenge for the US now was how to handle North Korea's nuclear weapons because that would greatly influence Iran." It sounded as though Iran was an afterthought. Washington found his comment on US-North Korean relations both unwanted and far-fetched.
On Sunday too, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev told the CNN: "My Israeli colleagues assure me they are not planning to attack Iran." President Shimon Peres was cited as one of those "colleagues."
The general effect of these statements, which flatly contradicted the policies of every Israeli government and member, was of muddle and loss of focus in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Our military sources report that Monday, Sept. 21, the prime minister and chief of staff accordingly got together on ways to control the damage these statements had caused Israel's deterrence. The harm was compounded by the negative impact of the one-sided UN report accusing Israel of war crimes in the Gaza War and suggesting Israel officers could face trial before foreign courts.
Netanyahu and Ashkenazi made it their first priority to blot out the impression that Israel had retreated from its military option against Iran's nuclear weapons bid before the two Iran-backed terrorist groups, Hizballah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza, decided to exploit Israel's apparent softening.
The Israeli army chief there and then delivered a statement to the army radio network stressing that Israel's military operation against Iran was still very much on the table. He later warned: The Goldstone Report must not be used by terrorists as a license to strike from civilian population. Israel would not let this happen in the future either.
His words resonated hardly at all through the world media. Hoping for a bigger splash - at least on US, Iranian and Arab radar - he ordered the Israeli Air Force , too, recognizing the need to correct the impression he had created, informed Gates in Washington that Israel stood by its right to strike Iran's nuclear sites.

US Afghanistan commander demands extra US troops to save Afghan mission

Gen.Stanley McChrystal lays it on the line
Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, warns in an urgent, confidential assessment of the Afghanistan war, leaked to the US media, that without extra troops within the next year on top of the 66,000 already fighting there, the eight-year conflict "will likely result in mission failure."
The White House confirmed Monday, Sept. 21 that the president has seen the general's report but has not received a formal request for more forces.
In the 66-page assessment he sent to defense secretary Robert Gates on Aug. 30, Gen. McChrystal said emphatically: "Failure to gain the initiative and reverse insurgent momentum in the near-term (next 12 months) - while Afghan security capacity matures - risks an outcome where defeating the insurgency is no longer possible."
Therefore, according to DEBKAfile's Washington sources, if President Barack Obama fails to approve the manpower increment and revised tactics the general is demanding, he might as well start working on an early withdrawal strategy and accept the curtailment of the conflict dubbed "Obama's War" to distinguish it from "Bush's War" in Iraq.
The general, who took over his command two months ago, lists half a dozen reasons for his blunt assessment:
1. The insurgents control a significant portion of the country. Our sources report a Taliban presence in central, eastern and northern Afghanistan.
2. Increased strength alone will not defeat the Taliban. Both American and other countries need to reassess their war strategy, misconceived from the 2001 invasion. NATO forces should spend as "little time as possible in armored vehicles or behind the walls of forward operating bases." They need to focus on engaging and destroying to Taliban to ensure the Afghanistan population feels safe and secure.
3. "Muddled NATO tactics" and corruption in high places in Kabul leave Afghans "reluctant to align with us against the insurgents."
4. Corruption has spread to the Afghan army and other security forces ranks. There is a crisis of confidence among Afghans, both in their government and the international community, which "undermines our credibility and emboldens the insurgents."
5. US and its NATO partners "do not sufficiently appreciate the dynamics in local communities nor how the insurgency, corruption, incompetent officials, powerbrokers and criminals all combine to affect the Afghan population," says the US general.
His central conclusion is that failure to add troops "…risks a longer conflict, greater casualties, higher overall costs and, ultimately, a critical loss of political support."
Already now, about 58 percent of Americans oppose the Afghan war compared with 38 percent who support it - a trend reflected in Obama's Democratic Party and some Republicans. The McChrystal report was leaked on the day Italy laid six soldiers killed in Afghanistan to rest, prompting Rome's decision to withdraw the Italian contingent from Afghanistan as soon as possible.
In the UK, support for the war has declined steeply.
Obama faces two hard options: Boost the US military in Afghanistan by tens of thousands of additional US troops, or else engage the Taliban insurgents in negotiations for a timetable for NATO forces to exit the country.
The second course presents the major hazards of Kabul's reversion to Taliban rule coupled with an assault on the stability of the Pakistani government. They would combined to generate a slump in US positions in Southwest Asia.
Secondly, the US military's withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq in the same 2010-2013 timeframe - during which Iran will follow North Korea in acquiring nuclear weapons - will look to the Middle East and Europe like the crackup of US positions in key world arenas.
President Obama might dodge both dim prospects, according to DEBKAfile's military experts, by pulling US troops out of Afghanistan while keeping them close: A ring of US special bases would be installed in neighboring countries such as Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, or Kyrgyzstan, poised for rapid in-and-out strikes against any strongholds al Qaeda might rebuild in Afghanistan under the wing of a radical Kabul regime.

Top U.S. Commander For Afghan War Calls Next 12 Months Decisive

Whichever way one looks at the decision by the Obama administration to reverse the Bush initiative to deploy an anti-ballistic missile system in Poland and the Czech Republic, it is bad. Either it reeks of plain geostrategic ineptness, or it is a deliberately radical effort to destroy America’s reputation as a nation prepared to use its power to contain imperialist moves by stronger nations against the weak.
For a start, the timing of the announcement was abysmal.
Anyone half conversant with history, with an understanding of the Polish character and heritage, let alone an ounce of consideration for diplomatic form, would surely have refrained from delivering such a geopolitical blow to Poland on the 70th anniversary of Poland’s invasion by Russia.
But no.
Not only did the Obama administration highly offend one of the greatest of America’s allies by committing such a breach of protocol, but the very manner in which the president also conveyed the message of “no deal” to the Czech president showed little thought for diplomatic niceties. With no consideration as to the seven-hour time difference between Washington and Warsaw, President Obama awakened Czech President Vaclav Havel at an unearthly hour to tersely inform him of his decision to welsh on the deal to situate radar facilities in the Czech Republic.
This all comes within just days of the Obama administration having snubbed the Poles at the 70th-anniversary commemoration of the Nazi invasion of Poland on September 7. On that occasion, the heads of state of the leading nations in Europe—Germany, France, Britain and Russia—all assembled in Krakow in memorium of that historic occasion. To represent America, the Obama administration sent a retired four-star general.
But perhaps we ought to remember, this is the administration that sent very obvious negative signals to its brother nation and closest ally, Britain, by first returning a bust of Churchill that graced the Oval Office during the Bush Jr. years, then gave a trifling iPod as a “regal” gift to the Queen of England, and a pile of dvds as a gift to the British prime minister, the latter not even being compatible with the British playback system.
If we were to be naive in our evaluation of this series of seeming diplomatic gaffes, we could put them down to plain ignorance, if not absolute ineptness. However, having studied the background agendas of the cabal that runs America’s present government, it is hard not to draw the conclusion that these were all very cynically calculated initiatives of a radical core at the top of U.S. politics that is intent on destroying the heart and soul of all that America has historically stood for. In the process, they are destroying any trust that America’s former allies may have in the nation’s willingness to oversee their security at a time of great global disorder.
For America, in a dangerous age, this amounts to plain geopolitical suicide. As that wise old observer of international relations, Henry Morgenthau, observed, the key question a nation should ask when evaluating the foreign policy of another is, “Is the foreign policy of the other nation imperialistic or not? … The answer to that question has determined the fate of nations, and the wrong answer has often meant deadly peril or actual destruction” (Politics Among Nations).
America will soon find that it has come up with the wrong answer to that question in relation to both Germany and Russia!
No nation, other than tiny Israel and embattled Serbia, can feel the bitter effects of the radically new approach to its foreign policy by this U.S. administration more than Poland. Historically the geopolitical fall guy between Germany and Russia in those nations’ separate drives for hegemony, all of a sudden Poland once again sits in midfield waiting to see which boot it will first feel as the tussle starts anew, with the referee in Washington having fled the scene.
The message to both Russia and Germany could hardly be clearer. This present U.S. administration is walking away from the grand post-Cold War geopolitical game that is entering its final quarter on the old battlefields of Europe. No wonder both Russia’s Prime Minister Putin and Germany’s Chancellor Merkel smilingly acknowledged their satisfaction at the Obama administration’s capitulation on the Bush policy of seeking to constrain Russian hegemony. They are now free to divide the spoils in Europe between themselves without any interference from that pesky United States.
There’s a sense of déjà vu here.
Seventy years ago, Poland was subject to the tussle for territory on the European continent between an expansionist Nazi Germany and Communist Russia, suffering invasion by both just after they concluded their infamous non-aggression pact. The Czech Republic was overrun by the Nazis.
Today, Poland and the Czech Republic remain the only two European Union member nations withholding ratification of the Lisbon Treaty/EU constitution, pending the outcome of the Irish referendum on whether that nation should sign up to it. But with the U.S. now walking away from the fight, Poland and the Czech Republic are stuck. They would hardly choose to return to Russian oppression, from which they escaped less than 20 years ago. They appear destined now to be reabsorbed by the enemy that seized them in 1934. Given the Obama administration’s disloyal European foreign policy, the stage is set for Poland and the Czech Republic to capitulate and sign on to the Lisbon Treaty.
A few realists comprehend the enormity of this disastrous move by Washington. Think tank Stratfor commented, “Much of Europe—especially the central and eastern regions—will now view the United States as unable to fulfill its promises to its allies in the face of a strengthening Russia” (September 18). We might well add, “and in the opposing face of a strengthening Germany”!
The upshot is that Europe’s immediate future will now be decided between the same two powers that signed a deal to seal its fate back in 1939.
As the G-20 leaders meet in Pittsburgh later this week, a geopolitically weakened U.S. president will face a geostrategically strengthened Russian/German duo.
Watch for Germany and Russia to become increasingly strident in their demands on an American administration facing significant decline in its international clout well before finishing its first 12 months in office.
