All Marine Corps League detachments, Marine Division Associations, active and reserve units and family members are encouraged to attend in honor of LCpl. Gamble's service to our Nation and support his family. Marines of 1/23's active duty I&I Staff will be conducting the burial detail. See Houston Chronicle
A 20-year-old Marine from Sugar Land has died in Afghanistan from injuries inflicted by an improvised explosive device.
Lance Cpl. Garrett W. Gamble, the son of former professional hockey player Troy Gamble, was killed Thursday while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said on Friday.
Gamble was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Gamble was a 2008 graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in Sugar Land. Besides his father, he is survived by mother Michelle Greer, stepfather Brad Greer and brothers Cody and Gunner Gamble.
Gamble's father played in the National Hockey League for the Vancouver Canucks, but spent more years in the minor leagues.
He played for the Houston Aeros from 1994 through 1996. After retiring, he has worked as a broadcaster with the Aeros.
Gamble's death brought the U.S. total killed in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan to 936, according to the Associated Press.

For all Marines, friends and family able to attend, here is the information on the funeral home viewing and memorial service for LCpl. Gamble:
LCpl. Gamble’s remains will arrive from Dover, Delaware, at 1400 Wednesday March 17, 2010, at the Sugar Land Municipal Airport.
A viewing will be held from 1400 - 1900 on Friday March 19, 2010 at First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land, located at 431 Eldridge Sugar Land, TX 77498.
The memorial service will be at the same church at 1000 on Saturday March 20, 2010, immediately followed by a procession led by the Patriot Guard Riders Houston VA National Cemetery where the ceremonial burial service will be conducted by Marines from 1st Battalion 23rd Marines. We will muster at the Cemetery's central pavilion at 1100 hours in anticipation of the family's arrival from the memorial service. The Houston VA National Cemetery is located at 10410 Veterans Memorial in Houston, TX 77038.
If possible we will assemble all Marine Corps Coordinating Council, Marine Corps League and Marine Corps Division Association members in a group at the Cemetery to honor this Marine.
