4 And a sword shall come upon Egypt, and convulsion shall be in Ethiopia, when the slain shall fall in Egypt; and they shall take away her abundance, and her foundation shall be broken down.
5 Ethiopia, and Put, and Lud, and all the mingled people, and Cub, and the children of the land that is in league, shall fall with them by the sword. {P}
6 Thus saith the LORD: they also that uphold Egypt shall fall, and the pride of her power shall come down; from Migdol to Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord GOD.
In his first public appearance in four days of violent protests against his rule, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said after midnight Friday, Jan. 28, he would not resign. He had sacked his cabinet, would form a new one Saturday and promised democratic reforms. President Obama then called him to tell him he must deliver on reforms and give up violence. Mubarak's speech showed he had bowed to US terms for his survival and defied the protesters' demands for his resignation.

Egyptian and Arabic internet sites are reporting that Gemal Mubarak, the president's son and chosen successor secretly took himself and family out of the country Tuesday, Jan. 25, by way of the military airfield in West Cairo, at the peak of anti-government riots in Egyptian cities. If confirmed, Gemal Mubarak's defection would attest to deep fissures in the 82-year old president's regime, the reverse of the prevailing view in the West and Israel.
