Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero

Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero, a Democrat, has confirmed plans to introduce legislation through which the state's lawmakers would force the public disclosure of all President Obama's birth documents held by the Hawaii Department of Health, including President Obama’s long-form original birth certificate.

Espero told WND his bill is aimed at "giving citizens access to birth records" under a standard of government

transparency which would permit journalists to request in writing the public disclosure of vital birth records including long-form birth certificates of all persons born in Hawaii. He said it would include the release of birth records on those previously born in Hawaii.

"My decision to file the legislation was primarily a result of the fuss over President Obama's birth records and the lingering questions," Espero said.

Espero told WND that he believes President Obama was born in Hawaii.

JERUSALEM – The Obama administration has set up an apparatus to closely monitor Jewish construction in Jerusalem and the strategic West Bank to the point of watching Israeli moves house-to-house in certain key neighborhoods, WND has learned.

Obama has called for a complete halt to what he refers to as settlement activity, meaning Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem or the West Bank. Obama's edict extends to natural growth, or accommodating for the housing needs of existing local settler population centers. The demand is an apparent abrogation of a deal Israel struck with the Bush administration to allow natural growth.

For the past few months, Obama's Middle East envoy, George Mitchell, has protested to the highest levels of the Israeli government about evidence found of any Jewish housing expansion in those areas, informed Israeli officials said.

The officials, who spoke on condition that their names be withheld, said that last March Mitchell oversaw the establishment of an enhanced apparatus based in the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem that closely monitors the West Bank and eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods, incorporating regular tours of the areas, at times on a daily basis.

Previously, under the Bush administration, the consulate kept a general eye on Jewish Jerusalem and West Bank construction, receiving much of its information from nongovernmental organizations.

"Mitchell's apparatus takes things to a whole new level. They are watching very closely," said an Israeli official.

Jewish leaders in the West Bank said the consulate takes no pains to hide their activities.

Stanley Ann Dunham, Barack Obama's mother, was registered for college classes in Seattle only 15 days after reportedly delivering her first-born child in Honolulu, according to school records obtained by WND.

How Dunham was able to travel the 2,680 air miles from Honolulu to Seattle only a few days after the birth

of her baby – at a time when trans-Pacific travel likely was at a speed half of today's jets – is not disclosed in the currently available public record concerning President Obama's birth.

Nor is there anything on the public record to explain how Dunham managed to find an apartment and relocate with her infant son so she could begin taking university classes within 15 days of the baby's birth.

There is also nothing on the public record to suggest Madelyn Dunham, Ann Dunham's mother, or any other family member preceded or accompanied Dunham to Seattle in August 1961 to help the new mother and infant son find appropriate living arrangements and complete the university's enrollment process prior to beginning classes.

Only a day after a document purporting to be President Obama's birth certificate from Kenya was submitted to a court in California, the long-running dispute over his birth and eligibility to occupy the Oval Office has been entered into the Congressional Record – by a Democrat no less.

WND reported over the weekend when California attorney Orly Taitz, who has filed a number of lawsuits demanding proof of Obama's eligibility to serve as president, released a copy of the document. She also filed a motion in a federal court seeking authentication of the information.

While the White House – several times – has ridiculed the controversy without providing the original long-form birth certificate that probably would answer many of the questions, Congress has diligently and studiously ignored the issue.

Virtually the only reference on Capitol Hill has been a proposal from Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., to require future presidential candidates to document their eligibility under the U.S. Constitution's demand the president be a "natural born" citizen."

But now the Senate has plunged into the dispute, even if unwillingly, with a statement from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who formally elevated it to arguably the highest debate level in the land.

"Let's be clear. It's a phony issue and does not deserve even a minute of our attention on the floor of the United States Senate," Reid announced today, giving the issue just that minute. "It's absurd, irresponsible, baseless and the false claims of long ago have been refuted.

WASHINGTON – One of the most influential bloggers, pundits and columnists in America, Andrew Sullivan, joined the rising chorus of voices across the political spectrum calling for Barack Obama to release his original, long-form birth certificate to put aside growing doubts about his eligibility for the presidency.

Sullivan writes that he believes official accounts, such as the recent statement by Dr. Chiyome Fukino, director of the Hawaii State Health Department, that maintain Obama was born there and is a "natural born citizen." Sullivan says, however, Americans should not be expected to accept on blind faith the word of public officials.

"It is not my job as a journalist or yours as a citizen to take public officials on trust." he says. "They are not to be trusted, whoever they are. It is our job to demand all the evidence we want or need. I know the electronic record is legit. I have no doubt that Obama has every constitutional right to be president. I think the Birthers are nuts. But there is no reason on earth that the original cannot be retrieved and shown."

He added that CNN President Jon Klein and his network were wrong to dispense bad information about original Hawaiian birth certificates having been destroyed and declaring the story dead.

"Obama promised total transparency," he wrote. "Where is it? Or will it arrive at the moment when he tackles the deficit and withdraws from Iraq?"

Only seven hours after posting his call for transparency, however, Sullivan wrote that he sustained a barrage of furious readers and recanted his position, saying he has faith in FactCheck.org's assertion that the Certificate of Live Birth is good enough.

"I should note that I was made aware today that FactCheck.org did see the original, and I'd encourage the Obama peeps to show it to other outlets," Sullivan writes. "After following all these confusing stories, and realizing that others have indeed seen and vetted the original, I don't see any further obligation on Obama's part. I'm still confused as to how the same original could be simultaneously in Chicago and Hawaii, but it seems to me that the president has done what is necessary."

Sullivan's backpedaled further, stating, "I'm not part of the Birther crowd. I'm trying to defuse them. I'm done now."

WASHINGTON – California attorney Orly Taitz, who has filed a number of lawsuits demanding proof of Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as president, has released a copy of what purports to be a Kenyan certification of birth and has filed a new motion in U.S. District Court for its authentication.

The document lists Obama's parents as Barack Hussein Obama and Stanley Ann Obama, formerly Stanley Ann Dunham, the birth date as Aug. 4, 1961, and the hospital of birth as Coast General Hospital in Mombasa, Kenya.

No doctor is listed. But the alleged certificate bears the signature of the deputy registrar of Coast Province, Joshua Simon Couya. It was allegedly issued as a certified copy of the original in February 1964.

WND was able to obtain other birth certificates from Kenya for purposes of comparison, and the form of the documents appear to be identical.

Last week, a counterfeit document purporting to be Obama's Kenyan birth certificate made the rounds of the Internet, but was quickly determined to be fraudulent. The new document released by Taitz bears none of the obvious traits of a hoax.

Taitz told WND that the document came from an anonymous source who doesn't want his name known because "he's afraid for his life."

Taitz's motion, filed yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, requests the purported evidence of Obama's birth – both the alleged birth certificate and foreign records not yet obtained – be preserved from destruction, asks for permission to legally request documents from Kenya and seeks a subpoena for deposition from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

"I filed the motion with the court asking for expedited discovery, which would allow me to start subpoenas and depositions even before Obama and the government responds," Taitz told WND. "I am asking the judge to give me the power to subpoena the documents from the Kenyan embassy and to require a deposition from Hillary Clinton so they will be forced to authenticate [the birth certificate].

"I'm forcing the issue, where Obama will have to respond," she said.

"Before, they said, 'You don't have anything backing your claims,'" Taitz explained. "Now I have something. In fact, I have posted on the Internet more than Obama has. My birth certificate actually has signatures."

Taitz's most celebrated case involved a military officer, Maj. Stefan Cook, whose order to deploy to Afghanistan was revoked when he challenged Obama's eligibility to hold office. That case has now been refiled in federal court in Florida, raising the specter of a class-action claim among members of the military that their orders aren't valid because of questions surrounding Obama's constitutional eligibility.

Taitz told WND she plans to file additional paperwork with the Florida court tomorrow, adding the alleged Kenyan birth certificate to Maj. Cook's case.

As Barack Obama turns America upside down, the subject of illegal immigration has almost become an afterthought.

I was reminded about this budding crisis by a press release that crossed my desk this week: "HOUSTON – (July 28, 2009) – A new study released by Rice University in Houston finds that California newspapers located closer to the border of Mexico routinely provide a more negative slant on immigration in general news reporting and on their opinion pages than the state's newspapers located further away from the border.

"The study, 'Slanted Newspaper Coverage of Immigration: The Importance of Economics and Geography,' was conducted by Rice University political scientist Regina Branton and Johanna Dunaway of Louisiana State University and published in the Policy Studies Journal."

The study – government funded, no doubt – used content analysis, geographic information systems and contextual data found in 1,227 California newspaper news articles and opinion pieces from 2004-05.

"'We found that newspapers located closer to the Mexican border often report the more negative side of the immigration issue,' Branton said. 'Moreover, we found corporate-owned newspapers are more likely to report a negative slant to the issue than privately owned newspapers.'"

Land sakes! Did it ever occur to these out-of-touch academics that, perhaps, people closer to the border actually experience more problems associated with illegal immigration than those who don't?

The answer is no.

Branton explained the reason for the difference is that newspapers are trying to please their audience – the readers – and thus maximize profits.

"While all news organizations are driven somewhat by the need to make profits, a public group of shareholders seeks to maximize profits and considers that the main goal," she said. "It’s been well-documented that the media report heavily on sex, violence and crime to appeal to readers. The immigration issue is an emotional national issue that newspapers can sensationalize and provide influence on."
